Travelling to India for Dental Treatment

Practical logistics for international patients — visas, flights, and getting to the clinic.

Before You Fly

Visa & entry basics

Tourist e-Visa

Most nationalities can apply for an Indian e-Visa online before travel — typically processed within a few days. Check eligibility for your passport on the official Indian government e-Visa portal.

Medical Visa

For longer or more involved treatment plans (e.g. All-on-4), a medical visa may be more appropriate — we can provide an appointment letter to support your application. Step-by-step guide →

Documents to carry

Valid passport, visa confirmation, any existing dental X-rays or records, and your written treatment quote from Dental Arch.

Medical Visa

How to get a medical visa for India

A general, step-by-step overview. Visa rules and fees change, so always confirm the current requirements on the official portal or with the Indian embassy or consulate in your country. Visa decisions are made only by the Indian authorities.

  1. Check your eligibility and visa type. A medical visa is for patients seeking treatment at a recognised facility in India. Up to two attendants, who should be a partner or close relatives, can apply for a medical attendant visa for the same period. Check the official portal for the visa types open to your nationality, as some can apply for an e-Medical visa online.
  2. Keep your referral and records ready. Authorities may ask for a recommendation or referral from a doctor in your home country, so keep any referral letter, diagnosis and medical history to hand.
  3. Check your passport. It needs to stay valid for at least six months beyond your stay in India, and have blank pages for the visa.
  4. Get an invitation letter from the clinic. It sets out the treatment planned, how long it will take and your details. Dental Arch can provide an appointment letter on request: ask us on WhatsApp.
  5. Prepare your documents. Typically: passport, a recent digital photo (JPEG, square, full face, plain light background; check the portal for exact size limits), the completed application form, proof of funds such as bank statements, the invitation letter, treatment details, proof of residential address and your medical history.
  6. Apply online. Fill in the application accurately on the official Indian Visa Online website and upload your documents: indianvisaonline.gov.in.
  7. Book an appointment. If required for your country, book at the nearest Indian Visa Application Centre or Indian embassy or consulate, and take your printed application and documents.
  8. Pay the visa fee. Fees depend on your country of residence and the type and length of visa.
  9. Biometrics and interview, if asked. Some applicants are asked for fingerprints or a short interview.
  10. Wait for processing. Times vary, from a few days to a couple of weeks. You can usually track your application online.
  11. Receive your visa. A medical visa is usually valid for up to a year or the length of treatment, whichever is shorter, and can be extended in India if needed.

Health and arrival requirements

Travellers arriving from certain countries may need a yellow fever vaccination certificate and a polio vaccination record, and medical visa holders may need to register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after arrival. Requirements change, so confirm them with the official sources before you travel. Our team can guide you on registration once you are here.

Good to know

Give accurate and truthful information to avoid delays or refusal. For more detail, visit the official Indian Visa Online site or contact the Indian embassy or consulate in your country.
